In the last years i have seen how hundreds of tons of wheat were not sold and just left to rote in the storage plant. It wasn’t even worth to load it to the trucks and transport it 20 km to the ports.
In 2015 Argentina barely exported 2.7% of the world wheat exportation, 8.5 million tons.
Producers still cultivate wheat because there is still an internal market for it and they use the crop to rotate the crops in their lands. So only big and medium farms are financially capable of producing it, many at losing rates.There was even importation of wheat from Uruguay.

Why we fell so low from being one of the world leaders in wheat exports?: because the farmer gets a very low price and the intermediate actors in the commercial chain win all the money without having any cost. That is how the final consumer will pay up to 5000% of the price of the wheat used to produce wheat products that was payed to the farmer.
